Keeping secrets is really hard for me to do, especially from my best friend, whom I tell everything to. I just get so excited about a secret and it kills me to not tell anyone. Although, I do love surprising my friends and this was definitely a big surprise.
A couple of months ago, my best friend's boyfriend, Spencer texted me at 2 in the morning telling me that he had a plan to propose to Cayla and he needed my help. So for a while now, Cayla's sister-in-law, Amber, and I have been helping Spencer plan a proposal that Cayla would love.
For those of you who do not know my best friend, she has a little bit of an obsession with the Disney movie, Lilo and Stitch. Okay, maybe more than a little bit. Spencer bought a Stitch costume and was going to rent a paddle board. Amber and I are supposed to take Cayla to the beach for the day to make her believe that we were going to have a girl's only day. I told the girls that I wanted to do a Hawaiian themed photo shoot on the beach. It all went as planned, for the most part. Cayla was somewhat stubborn, but that is only because she had no idea what was going on. We had bought her a dress that reminded us of Lilo, but she had gone and bought herself a dress that she wanted to wear for the pictures. It was a hassle to get her to wear the dress that we had picked out for her. She had already worn the dress the week before, which she wasn't supposed to do, but we had no way to stop her without her getting suspicious of why we gave her the dress. We kept giving her many reasons why she should wear that dress instead of the other one and she sort of got mad at us, but its okay. She would soon realize why she needed to wear that dress and thank us for it.
It was a good day. We met up with another girl friend of ours at the beach and had a good time before we had to get ready for the photoshoot. Every time Spencer would text Amber or me, we would say that it was our friend Blake, whom we were meeting up with later that day, was texting or calling us. It was pretty funny and she completely fell for it. Later after shopping and getting ready, we headed back to the beach. We took some group pictures of us girls and then I told them that we would do individual pictures of each of us, but Cayla was first. I was already crying before Spencer got there, but I blamed it on the wind and sand making my eyes water, which she also fell for. She kept turning around to look at the beach and get the wind out of her face and had to tell her multiple times to turn around and face the camera, even if we weren't taking pictures at that moment. We didn't want Cayla to see Spencer paddle boarding towards us. Luckily, she didn't see him until he walked up behind her to surprise her. It was amazing to watch and such a magical moment! This is a definitely a memorable proposal.
It was also a very fast proposal too, which was kind of funny. We were all running late and Spencer and his friend had to run off after the proposal because Spencer had to return the paddleboard at 7 o'clock and he had like 10 mins to return it. But we all met up again at Hyman's Seafood to celebrate.
I am so beyond happy for my best friend! I am excited that we were able to pull this amazing proposal off. Now, I am looking forward to planning a beautiful wedding with Cayla!
